Keeping a Clean Mouth When on the Go
You may have heard that it is recommended to brush your teeth after eating for optimum dental health. But, for most of us that is just unrealistic as we’re on the go more often than not.
If you’re looking for ways to promote oral health and clean teeth throughout the day, even when on the go … here are some dentist-recommended tips:
- Chew gum
If you’re a gum-chewer, you’ll be pleased to hear that there are healthy benefits to chewing gum that will make your mouth happy! Chewing sugarless gum for about 20 minutes after eating can help promote dental health. Chewing gum increases saliva flow in the mouth – saliva helps neutralize and wash away acids left on the teeth and gums. - Wipe teeth clean with teeth wipes
Wipe away food particles and acid build-up on the surface of your teeth and gums with a teeth wipe product. There are several teeth wipe products available on the market. Teeth wipes are a sleeve that slides over your finger which you then wipe over your teeth. - Try disposable mini toothbrushes
Disposable mini brushes will enable you to brush up on the go – small bristles and a freshening bead give you clean teeth and fresh breath. The great part is no water or rinsing is necessary, so you can use them anytime, anywhere! - Floss on the go with flossers
Flossers are a great option for attacking food stuck between your teeth. You don’t have to wait until the end of the day to floss your teeth – carry flossers with you and use them after eating, especially foods that are prone to getting stuck between teeth such as popcorn, corn on the cob, beef jerky, or ribs. - Drink water
Drinking water after eating can help wash away acid and loose food particles left behind in your mouth and gums. For an added bonus in combating cavities choose water with fluoride.
